There are a lot of posts on the web about the pros of using a grip attached to a digital reflex. After some years waiting, I did finally decide to purchase one for my current camera, a Nikon D300. I did an exhaustive search and found out that the lowest prices are offered (now) by:
Amazon.de at 178.95 + 15€ for the shipment.
Ebay's shop.multimedia at 179.9 € + 14 € for the shipment.
kamera-express.nl at 139 + various costs due to shipment and bank-transfer wich amount to extra 30 or more euros.
I did finally purchase my grip at ebay because the shop has excellent user reviews (and 99.9% favorable votes). The grip is still 60€ cheaper than the ones sold at Pixmania and eve more if we consider physical photography stores, where the price can be as large as 320 €.
I just got the grip yesterday and did some first shots with it. The usability is fantastic. Now I can shot vertical portraits without tilting my arm excessively. Everything becomes natural and you can concentrate on the foto. The joystick control is a bit less comfortable than the one on the camera body. It is however quite useful for moving around the AF-point marker.
It is true that it adds some extra weight to the camera, but not that much. I do already use quite heavy lenses (FX format ones) and did not notice any worsening on this aspect.
Well, I can only say that I am happy with the grip and recommend you to buy one if you were already thinking about it...
